The Tasmanian Rangers Association

The Tasmanian Rangers Association was launched at Lake St Clair National Park forty years ago, and was originally formed to help develop and support Park Rangers and their families. Over the years the association has grown to welcome a wide range of staff from across the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service including Visitor Reception staff, Field Officers and Fire Management Officers. The association works to raise awareness of the vital work of protected area managers; to support the work of other protected area managers globally; and to mentor and enable professional development of its members.

Favourite Park/ reserve: Southwest National Park for its variety, beauty and the fun times I’ve had bushwalking and kayaking with friends out there. Living in Maydena makes it very easy to head out there for quick missions to clear the cobwebs before or after work.

Favourite Park/ reserve: The Arthur Pieman Conservation Area is my favourite reserve because it feels wild and untamed, with a strong sense of history and cultural landscapes. The coastline is beautiful and when I’m there I feel connected to earth.

Favourite Park/ reserve: St Valentines Peak. It is the peak we saw when we first came to Tassie for a holiday and found our farm. It reminds me, every day, of why we moved here and what can be achieved through our shared experiences.

Asking PWS staff to pick their favourite park is like asking someone to choose their favourite child haha! Kimberley Warm Springs SR has to top the list. Where else can you find a geothermal feature complete with its own VIP endemic snail species with specialty algae, and random fresh-water eel? It's like nature's own exclusive spa, minus the cucumber water but with way more scientific intrigue! 😊

Favourite Park/ reserve: Morton National Park on the South Coast of NSW. Lots of great memories exploring the park when I was growing up. I still try to get up Didhol/Pigeon House Mountain for sunrise every time I am back.

Northwestern Representative

Favourite Park/ reserve: Cradle Mountain. I am a mountain and wildlife kind of person and Cradle ticks all the boxes. Every day is different here, whether it’s snowing, raining or sunny the mountain is always putting on a display.

Favourite Park/ reserve: Leeawuleena/ Lake St Clair will always hold a special place in my heart. There is nothing quiet as beautiful as watching the sunrise from Fergys Paddock and the mist rising off the Lake.
