Ranger Relay Section 5: South Coast Track

Updated: Sep 19, 2021

The final leg of the Ranger Relay is the 84km South Coast Track, from Melaleuca to the finish line at Cockle Creek. From exposed roots and mud to beaches, from rainforest and buttongrass to subalpine vegetation, this track is one of the classic Tasmanian treks. It is also a challenging adventure, including the infamous crossing of the Ironbound Range and rowing a dinghy across New River Lagoon, under whatever weather spring throws at our relay. Yet with the possibility of afternoon swims and ocean sunrises, this coastal track is also a rewarding journey, and an apt way to finish the relay down the length of the island.

The Ranger Relay will have come off the Port Davey track before this final section.
